My Today

I think I may have discovered what the root of most of my problems is:

Cable TV. It's not that I am a disastisfied customer, it's just my time can better be spent getting things done and being more productive with my time. TV is a great outlet to relax and escape from life. So can DVD's and video games, which do not cost $110 a month and of which I already have and use infrequently. I wasted most of my day in front of the TV. I got up during commerical breaks to tidy up around the apartment, except when Prince cuddled up to me oh so ever cutely and I could not let the cute kitty off my belly and chest.

I do love the Comcast internet though... That's about half my bill. And I use it often productively. Most sites I visit are livejournal, news, e-mail, and that's pretty much it.

So today I pretty much slept in, watched TV, took an afternoon nap, walked around the park, ate pizza, cleaned my closet of winter clothes and shoes and brough out the spring/summer clothes and realized how much big I have gotten since a few years ago and need to be serious. I generally eat when I am bored.. and must get away from that.

I looked at townhome, condo, and home prices for the areas I wanted to live in. They look ridiculous. I mean, its not naperville, its not san francsico, wtf?

I got despaired, butI think things will only get better.

Tomorrow I've got lots to do at work, tomorrow night I plan on working out, and ironing my wardrobe. I've got lots of chores to do!

Hey

I hopw you don't think this is too personal, but since your post mentioned TV and weight gain I thought I'd mention that maybe the two are linked.

The average American watches 6 hours of TV a day. By age 60, that's 15 years people have wasted watching TV! Also, a lot of overeating/boredom eating happens while people are watching TV. Most people won't settle down for an evening of TV viewing without having the snacks lined up ready!

So maybe, as you say, TV is making you less productive... but also it may be the cause of any weight you have put on.

Just thought you might find that interesting.

you're right
I know the TV contibutes to my sedentary lifestyle and snacks. I'm not really a snacks person, but tend to overdo it a bit during meals like dinner. Watching tv is a relaxation and sometimes a form of escapism for me when I'm stressed. I tend to buy and eat finger food like cheese sticks, which is a no-no.

Yes, I think TV does contibute to my gain because it keeps me from doing other things that don't involve sitting in front of the couch.

I also think that my occupation warrents some note, because my entire job is spent in front of a computer! Every day.. :(
When the weather is nice and I dress appropiately, I'll take walks during my lunch break to the local forest preserve, but other than that, i'm sitting down all day.

I'm going to seriously consider the cancellation of my cable TV..

Re: you're right
I don't know whether you're aware but I'm actually a nutritionist and I do wellbeing and weight management coaching, including finding out a person's calorie requirements for them to maintain/reduce/increase their current weight, and healthy eating plans. No diets, no fads.

I'd be more than happy to do that for you if you were interested.

PS - I have the same thing with working from home - on the computer all day, sitting down. Luckily because I work from home I can spend my lunch break walking the dog. Could you get up earlier and take a walk in the mornings before work?
