The cicadas are coming

  • May. 20th, 2007 at 11:24 PM
klingons do it better
• Billions of 17-year cicadas about to hatch in Midwest
• Birds, squirrels, dogs love the high-protein critters
• 1.5 million cicadas per acre will crowd onto trees
• Male's shrill call can reach 90 decibels, similar to blender

The cicadas are coming.

There is a lot of popularity of this bug lately. I walked down the streets of Glen Ellyn and store windows had cicada bugs on there. Cold Stone even came out with a cicada ice cream flavor. It says it is supposed to be crunchy :)

My ears are going to hurt. I remember them from 17 years ago, but I thought it had spread over a few years. It was so loud and annoying. I was about 9 yrs old then.

I've got them!
I'm prepared! Do you know if this is just a "Midwest" bug or do you have them in the South?

i don't remember much
impact by them the last time around...but i
remember finding a few shells here
and there from time to time. as for this time,
doubt they'll be flying around downtown!

Re: i
folks are saying that the chicago city shouldn't be impacted too much with the sounds. most of the bugs are found out in the burbs and forest preserves so you're lucky.
