Tonight I attended the International Dinner here on campus. It was so so exciting and I have to tell you all what happened.

Here is a Menu of the food items in the buffet that we had!

Pita Bread served with Plaka Tsatsiki (Cucumber & Yogart Dip) GREECE
I thought this was pretty good, kind of resembled body of christ in communion

Tabouli - some kind of spice salad LEBANON
my tongue could not handle the strong spice

Murg Korma - Chicken cooked w/ spices, onions & yogart
The chicken was pretty good, it had a unique but good taste
Pilau - rice cooked with spices and veggies - INDIA
I could not handle the strong spice that the rice had...

Gnocchi - potato dumpling served with Italian Meat Sauce - ITALY
The potato dumpling was delicous but the meat sauce was too fine for my tastes, party because it had red cabaret wine in it, which contradicts valpo's dry campus policy!!! hehehe

Vegetarian Fajita with salsa and sour creme - MEXICO
boring, i have faijitas here all the time

Dessert - Fresh orange slices with almond cookie (CHINA)
the cookie was ordinary, the school cafeteria makes better ones

The food was different and I enjoyed the company of the people around me, but for the most part and I don't think I'm alnoe by saying this, the real fun of the dinner was the entertainment, which was free!

First of all the two mcs for the occasions were so hilarious, they cracked ethnic jokes which were fun humored and just made me laugh so so hard. I appluad them for being such funny mcs.

The first skit was German orientated. It started out with a bunch of germans in a bar dancing to american pop music, and them being somewht bored. They're talking about the seasons and the festivities, and then February comes into play with Wahnsinn - That's Crazy, a german festivitiy where people run around dressed up weird and doing funny crazy jokes to people with authority. The provost of the university got his tie cut off! Then they had a few people sing different songs from various cultures like indonesia, venuzela, and mexico. Then came a chinese guy who performed Tai Chi for the audience and then an irish dancer who really got the audience in the beat with the irish melody river walk. Then the Islamic students took the stage with their skit on life was like before islam and how islam changed the mideast. And last the Indiana guys did their sexy aila-re-aila dance, woh that was fun and entertaining, I wish that I could see more of those wonderful dances. Hehe.

Anyways, I feel so oridnary being an american. Sometimes I wish that I could be somehow different or unique culturely. I blend in with the rest of the crowd I guess. I'm a heinz 57 being a mixed race of who knows what!

Cultural Awareness
In high school, we had multicultural assemblies with lots of entertainment from various cultures like that. I agree that they are tons of fun to watch! They're really educational too. Sometimes being "white" can be boring but I prefer to think of myself as a "European American" with a strong heritage from France among other places (my mom's French-Canadian, my dad's mixed...) So just think about that and be proud of where you're from!
